DIABETES DIAGNOSIS: Preferred tests are either a fasting plasma glucose (FPG) alone or a HbA1c alone, not both. The SAME blood test should be repeated in asymptomatic patients to confirm the diagnosis. In the UK we use the WHO diagnostic criteria, WHO defines normal FPG as < 6.1 mmol/l, but truly normal is probably < 5.6mmol/l. |
